The marks
Three marks, three colourways. Vector first, PNG where vector is refused.
The arc mark. A sunrise, and the figure standing under it.
Use the SVG wherever the format is accepted; it is the same file the site itself draws from and it holds up at any size. The PNGs are for the places that refuse vectors, and they arrive on a transparent ground rather than a white square, so nothing has to be knocked out by hand.
Room to breathe
The two rules that decide whether the mark survives a layout it did not come from.
Clear space on every side equals the height of the mark’s own dot. Nothing enters it: no type, no rule, no edge of the page.
Arc mark at 20px tall
Below this the gap between the arc and the dot closes up.
Wordmark at 80px wide
Below this the italic i stops reading as a separate letter.
What not to do
Every one of these is the real mark with the real mistake applied.
Don't stretch it
Scale both axes together, always.
Don't rotate it
The arc is a horizon. It stays level.
Don't recolour it
Ink, white, or the brand amber. Nothing else.
Don't add effects
No shadows, glows, gradients or outlines.
Don't crowd it
Keep one dot of clear space on every side.
Don't lose the contrast
On photography, use the white mark and check it reads.
Colour

The calm base. Ink, surfaces, borders.

The cream and butter the pages are lit with.

Setting a headline in your own publication’s face is fine and expected. The one thing to avoid is rebuilding the Rise wordmark out of type. It is drawn, not set, and the vector in this kit is the only correct version of it.
